Speed Into August This Saturday Night August 4 At The Fulton Speedway

FULTON, NY - July 30,2012 (By Dave Medler) - The pressure in the pits gets cranked up a notch when the calendar turns to August. Coming into this Saturday, August 4th, there is only five point paying races left in the 2012 season to decide champions and bragging rights through the off-season.

On the race card Saturday will be the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds, SUNY Canton Sportsman, NAPA Late Models, E&V Energy Novice Sportsman and the Parts Plus Four Cylinder Stocks. Also in competition will be the Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club and Racing Lawnmowers.

Last Saturday, Ryan Phelps had an impressive run and victory in the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds. With his victory Phelps gained a guaranteed starting spot for the prestigious  $20,000-to-win Sunoco Fulton Ethanol Facility Outlaw 200 by SUNY Canton on Saturday, September 29th.

To show the level of competition in the modifieds, Phelps became the eleventh different winner in twelve features run this season.

Jim Spano has been knocking at the door all season long in the SUNY Canton Sportsman. Last Saturday, he finally knocked that door down grabbing the big win. Coming into this Saturday, Spano now only trails Jordan Bennett by 19 points. Defending track champion, Jeremy Pitcher sits in third in the points only 33 out of first.

Sean Beardsley like Spano in the Sportsman has been close this season in the NAPA Late Models in feature racing. Saturday night Beardsley won his first feature of the year in convincing fashion. Larry Wight leads the point standings, followed by, Tim Sears Jr., Rick Miller, Dave Talbot and A.J Kingsley.

Twenty-six drivers have competed in the E&V Novice Sportsman this season. Looking at the top-five in the points, Kyle Fink is at the front followed by, Gary Hoppins, Brandon Ford, Corey Barker and Dan Keyes.

The always entertaining Parts Plus Four Cylinder Stocks saw a great feature last Saturday that saw Matt Dawson beat out Skip DeGroff by a matter of feet at the checkers. DeGroff holds a slim 16 point advantage over Mark Johnston in the standings. Eric M Zirbel is still in the running only 20 points behind DeGroff.

Gates will open this Saturday August 4, at 5:00 with racing starting at 7:00. Adult grandstand admission will be $12 with everyone 18 years old and younger admitted FREE to the grandstands.
