Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (May 2, 2017) – Joe Trenca noticeably progressed each night in a pair of vastly different circumstances last weekend.

The Mucci Motorsports driver opened the weekend on Friday with the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints at Fulton Speedway in Fulton, N.Y., which is a short drive from the team’s shop. With a lot of friends and family on hand, Trenca qualified sixth quickest in his group before finishing fourth in both a heat race and the dash.

“We didn’t time in that well, but it worked in our favor on the inversion,” he said. “The track got really slick and we weren’t very good in the heat. We tried something in the dash and were a little better. For the feature we threw the kitchen sink at it trying stuff and it worked.”

Trenca started the main event on the outside of the eighth row.

“It got strung out for a while,” he said. “The leaders started catching each other and I started catching them. It was a decent race. We were passing a couple of cars a lap until we got into fifth place. Then me and the fourth-place driver were catching the top three. With two laps to go I had burned the tires off and a couple of guys got by me at the end.”

Trenca closed the night with a seventh-place result, which was his best finish of the season and his second straight top 10.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Port Royal Speedway, where more than 40 competitors tackled the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions event at the big half-mile oval.

“The time trial deal is really tough for me because I’ve never been a good time trialer and haven’t done it much,” he said. “With that many cars and that much talent you have to time in well to not get behind.”

Trenca qualified 40th quickest overall and 10th in his group. He advanced a position to finish ninth in a heat race before charging from eighth to second place in the C Main. That earned a transfer into the B Main, in which Trenca ended 11th. He was awarded a track provisional to start at the back of the main event.

“We were really good in the C Main,” he said. “We were way too tight in the B Main and A Main and I knew we weren’t going to be able to go anywhere so I pulled in early in the feature to save our equipment.

“Throughout the night I think we gained a lot on the car. Overall it was a really good night for seat time and we gained a large notebook for that night.”

Trenca will return to 410ci winged sprint car competition this Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Saturday at Port Royal Speedway.
