Kyle Inman And AJ Miller Win Showdown At Sundown Sportsman Features At The Fulton Speedway

FULTON, NY -Thursday night at the Fulton Speedway Kyle Inman from Darien, NY and AJ Miller from Fultonville, NY took big DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman features as part of the St. Lawrence Radiology ‘Showdown at Sundown’ companion race with the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series.

For Inman and Miller, it was their first Fulton Speedway feature victories.

A strong field of 52 Sportsman signed into the pits setting up two 25-lap features during the night.

In the first 25 lap feature Kyle Inman took advantage of an up-front starting position and would jump out to the early advantage with Mike Phelps in his tire tracks.

With 10 laps showing on the scoring tower, Inman was able to put around five car-lengths between himself and Phelps. Behind the top-two, Zach Sobotka, Brandon Ford and Tyler Corcoran were in a battle of their own for third through fifth.

Inman was able to put more distance between himself and Phelps as he started to catch the back of the field with Sobotka and Ford trying to gain on the top-two in the caution free race to that point.

Over the final laps and no yellows to bunch up the field, Kyle Inman cruised to the win over Mike Phelps. Brandon Ford, Zach Sobotka and Tyler Corcoran finished third through fifth. Bob Henry Jr., Addision Bowman, Jim Spano, Greg Doust and Chris Mackey completed the top-ten.

In the second 25-lap feature, Matt Steffenhagen jumped out to the lead at the drop of the green setting an early fast pace. Behind him cars were two and three wide, fighting for positions.

At the 5-lap point Steffenhagan still led with Eric Giguere just a few car lengths behind. One of last week's feature winners Austin Germinio ran alone in third with AJ Miller and Corey Barker side-by-side for fourth and fifth.

On a restart, after a yellow on lap 8, Miller would see the bottom lane open up exiting turn two and would bolt from fourth into the lead.

With 10 laps remaining Miller held a slim lead over Giguere as Steffenhagen, Germinio and Matt Janczuk were still in contention as the laps started clicking off the scoring tower.

Miller would open a comfortable lead until lap 19 when the caution flag would wave tightening the field up for a shot at Miller in a 6-lap dash to the checkers.

When the green came back out, AJ Miller drove a flawless race hitting his marks as he cruised to his first ever Fulton Speedway win by 1.748 seconds win over Eric Giguere. Matt Steffenhagen, Matt Janczuk and Austin Germinio came home third through fifth.

Saturday, June 29 there will be no racing at the Fulton Speedway so fans and race teams can celebrate with recent graduates.

The speedway will be back in action for a big 4th of July holiday racing spectacular featuring a stop by the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints Speedweek that brings together some of the best 360 Sprint Car racers from the Northeast, Ontario, Canada and Quebec, Canada.

Joining the ESS Sprints will be the Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modifieds, DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman, Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux RUSH Late Models and the E&V Energy Novice Sportsman plus the Yellow Out for Sarcoma Research.

Adult grandstand admission is $22 with everyone 18 years old and younger admitted free. Pit admission is $35. Grandstands will open at 5:00 pm with racing at 7:00 pm.
